Walk for Water - 3rd Annual held on March 21st

Fresh WaterWater Missions International (WMI) based here in Charleston, SC is a nonprofit, Christian engineering organization serving the water and sanitation needs of people in developing countries and disaster areas. WMI uses low-maintenance, appropriate water technologies for drinking water treatment and distribution, wastewater management, and storm water control.

This year, WMI is holding it's 3rd Annual Walk for Water, Saturday March 21st at 9 A.M. Cannon Park, Downtown Charleston.

Why? In the developing world, millions of women and children walk up to four miles every day to fetch water for their families. Sadly, the water they fetch is filthy and bacteria ridden, causing wide-spread sickness and death. In fact, as many as 25,000 people - most of them children - die each day due to waterborne diseases. Walk for Water to raise awareness of the global water crisis and help Water Missions International provide life-saving, safe water to those who thirst.

What?  The Walk for Water is a fun, educational, family-friendly event that everyone will enjoy! This 3.5-mile route through Downtown Charleston is inspired by the experience of women and children who are responsible for fetching water for their families. Each walker will have the opportunity to carry an empty water pail, which can be filled with dirty water at the halfway point along the route then carried to the finish. After the walk, enjoy live entertainment, activities and refreshments in the park.
When and Where? Check-in begins at 8:00am Saturday, March 21, at Cannon Park, Downtown Charleston (129 Rutledge Ave., Charleston, SC). The Walk for Water begins at 9:00am and festivities in the park will follow.
